KARACHI: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the killing of innocent workers and labourers in Karachi are murderers of humanity and will have to face punishment.
He was addressing labour leaders at a local hotel on Friday. Central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, Gen. Abdul Qadir Baloch, Kh. Muhammad Asif, Rana Sanaullah, Salim Zia and a large number of office-bearers of various trade unions were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that workers have made a large contribution towards the development and progress of Karachi and they should also play their role in saving the city.
He said that if the government did not pay attention to improve the situation in Karachi, the labouring classes will be pushed towards hunger and poverty due to closure of industries.
He said that lawlessness is the root cause of the situation in Karachi and the PML-N is ready to make any sacrifice for curbing this menace.
Shahbaz Sharif further said that PML-N is fully aware of the problems and demands of workers and labourers and under the labour-friendly policy of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Yellow Cab and Apna Ghar schemes have been started in Punjab and their scope will be extended to the whole country so that basic facilities could become available to the middle class of the society.
He said that PML-N will consider at the highest level resolving the issues creating problems for workers under 18th amendment.
The Chief Minister said that corruption is rampant in the country and the man responsible for it is known to everyone. He said that Karachi has played the role of a mother but everyone is deeply grieved over the situation in the city.
He said that Karachi is a large-hearted city and after facing every wound its hustle and bustle returns with the hope that a messiah will take over the responsibility of the city. He said that there is need for a change in the system and not merely a change of faces for overcoming the crises being faced by the country.
The Chief Minister further said that the main reason for the situation in Pakistan is lack of accountability of looters and plunderers. He said that business community has to play an active role for restoration of peace in Karachi.
