FAISALABAD, Nov 6: Students and teachers blocked traffic on the Faisalabad-Jaranwala road on Wednesday to express their resentment against formation of boards of governors in the schools and colleges.

The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans.

They demanded immediate dissolution of BoGs from the state-run education institutions.

They held a meeting at the Municipal Degree College, Jaranwala Road, and urged the government not to make anti-education policies.

They criticized the government attitude and said they had been protesting against the BoGs for the last over a month but the rulers were playing the role of silent spectators.

They threatened that they would hold protest demonstrations and block roads daily in front of all the schools and colleges of the district till the acceptance of their demands.

Police drive:: The preliminary report of five special committees termed the campaign against illegal arms as a “farce” and demanded action against those police officials involved in nominating innocent people and entering fake recoveries to show their performance.

A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, told Dawn here on Wednesday that after receiving reports of police wrongdoings during the campaign against illicit arms, the Punjab police high-ups constituted five teams headed by senior police officers to probe the matter.

“These special teams minutely checked the record of police stations, interviewed a number of nominated people in jails and inspected the stores where arms were kept, and found that a large number of cases were registered just to show their efficiency,” he said.

He claimed that some officers of the rank of DSP were also found involved in this fraud. The record of recovered weapons of 19 of 26 police stations of the district was found bogus and “manufactured” by the SHOs with the patronage of their respective SDPOs just to befool their bosses.

According to sources, in the light of the report, the Punjab home department constituted special teams to find out the black sheep so that legal action could be taken against them.

They said nine SHOs of different police stations and three DSPs who are performing their duties in Faisalabad district would face legal action.

Meanwhile, Faisalabad former DPO Tassaduq Husain, deputed to verify the record of the district, paid a visit here a couple of days ago and met with different police officials.
