LADDAH, Aug 21: Three security personnel and five militants were killed in clashes in South Waziristan on Sunday after attacks on two checkpoints.

According to officials, six security men and 12 militants were injured in the gunbattles.

Sepoy Jameel was killed in an attack by militants on a check-post in Laddah early in the morning. Two militants were killed and five others injured when security personnel fired back.

Two troops were killed and six others injured in a clash on a checkpoint in Pash Ziarat. The shootout continued for an hour, leaving three militants killed and seven others injured.

The attackers fled.Pazir Gul adds: Two tribesmen and a militant were killed in a gunfight after an improvised explosive device ripped through a military vehicle near Miramshah in North Waziristan.

The blast left seven security men injured. Clashes broke out between tribesmen and militants after the explosion occurred in Chashma.

The vehicle was part of a convoy going from Miramshah to Bannu.

The areas along the road are under a curfew.

Witnesses saw two suspects running away after the explosion and Qutabkhel tribesmen of Ahmadzai Wazir chasing them. The suspects opened fire when local people joined the chase.

Two tribesmen and one suspected militant were killed in the clash.

Under a peace agreement signed with the government, the tribesmen are bound to provide security to the armed forces and government installations.

Meanwhile, eight troops were injured when a military vehicle overturned in North Waziristan.
