KARACHI: Sindh’s Home Minister Manzoor Wassan on Saturday claimed that the police had arrested 100 target killers involved in Karachi’s ongoing unrest, DawnNews reported.

He was speaking to media representatives after the funeral prayers of three policemen killed on Friday night in an ambush in the Korangi area.

Mr Wasan, Inspector General Sindh Wajid Durrani and other important officials were also present on the occasion. The provincial interior minister announced two million rupees each for the deceased police commandos’ families.

Mr Wassan  said he could not give details about which parties or ethnic groups were involved in the violence. The city would soon be cleared of the stocks of weapons stored in parts of the city, he added.

Responding to a questing regarding compensation for affected families, he said President Asif Ali Zardari had already made an announcement concerning the subject.

The provincial police chief on the ocassion said two of the attackers who fired at the police van were arrested.

“We have caught two attackers and we are interrogating them about others,” he said, adding that 18 people who were kidnapped on Friday had been retrieved by police.
