LAHORE, Nov 3: Governor Khalid Maqbool said here on Sunday that all arrangements had been made to convene the first session of the new provincial assembly, declining to give an exact date of the session.
Talking to reporters here at the Bagh-i-Jinnah Punjab Tennis Coaching Centre after witnessing the final of the national grass court tennis championship, he parried questions about the political situation in the province, asking to talk only on arrangements for Ramazan.
The governor said the government had made adequate arrangements for welcoming the holy month in a befitting manner. He said four million bags of wheat flour would be sold to poor people in the province at the concessional rate of Rs160 per bag during the month.
He said the government would arrange for sasta bazaars and Sunday bazaars during the month so as to provide a relief to the people. The province had enough stocks of foodgrains and other eatables and, therefore, there would be no dearth of them during the month, he said.
The governor said the prices of onions and cooking oil were slightly high but those of other essential items were under control.
He asked the people to arrange for Iftar in mosques and said he would also attend them at many places during the month. Seminars on Islamic teachings would also be held, he said.
The governor said he had called leaders of various traders associations at the Governor’s House on Saturday to ask them to keep a check on prices of essential items during Ramazan.
