HARIPUR, Nov 3: The wagon transport service on Haripur-Abbottabad route remained suspended for some hours on Sunday as the transport owners, reluctant to reduce the recently enhanced fare, kept their vehicles off the road.
However, after some time the local administration managed to make alternative arrangements for the commuters on the route.
According to sources close to wagon transport owners it all happened when they started receiving Rs17 instead of Rs15 from the passengers on Haripur-Abbottabad route owing to current rise in the petroleum products. Following this the district Nazim promised to negotiate with them on the matter on Nov 1.
When he failed to get into parleys with the transporters on the issue, they observed strike against the non-acceptance of their demands and kept their vehicles off the road for few hours causing inconvenience to the commuters.
When approached by the citizens, the local police chief provided alternative conveyance to the passengers forcing the transporters to call off their protest till the next round of negotiations with district Nazim, Dr Raja Aamir Zaman.
