LAHORE, Aug 2: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has condemned the firing incident at the house of physics department chairman and syndicate member Prof Dr Shaukat Ali.
After receipt of a complaint, the police reached the campus.
A PU spokesman said the varsity administration could neither be pressurised nor stopped to implement rules and regulations through these criminal and illegal activities.
He said the PU Discipline Committee had called Ibrar Wattoo of Law College for personal hearing for his alleged involvement in illegal activities.
The spokesman said Wattoo came along with his 20-25 accomplices and afterwards two masked persons riding a motorbike opened fire at the door of Prof Ali’s house. One bullet pierced into the gate and hit the drawing-room.
Watchman Mehmood and armed guard Waheed, who were standing outside guest house, tried to nab the culprits but they managed their escape.
The PU administration has filed an application with the police for necessary legal action.
Meanwhile, PU teachers have decided to stage a rally against the incident on Wednesday (today) at 10am at the Centre for Undergraduate Studies.
