LAHORE, Aug 1: Private schools’ students have clinched all top positions in the matriculation (part system) annual examination for 2011 organised by the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

Among position holders in science and humanities groups separately among boys and girls, the overall top three positions have been bagged by girls, though a boy shared the overall third position.

The Crescent Model Higher Secondary School for Boys, Shadman Colony, The Punjab School for Boys, Sector C-I, Block-2, Township, Pakistan Model High School for Boys, Raiwind Road, Kasur, and Farooqi Girls High School, Karim Park, Ravi Road, have bagged two positions each.

The positions were declared by Lahore board chairman Prof Dr Akram Kashmiri at a specially called press briefing at the Government College for Women, Samanabad, on Monday.

All other seven board chairmen also announced the names of position holders, their institutions and the marks obtained out of a total 1,050 marks.

According to the preamble, Larabe Farrukh (roll number 744499) of KIPS High School for Girls, 45-46-B, Johar Town, bagged overall top position with 1,022 marks. Saman Habib (roll number 751497) of LDA Model Girls High School, Jahanzeb Block, Allama Iqbal Town, secured second position with 1,021 marks, while Taimoor Jaffar Ali (roll number 776018) of Crescent Model Higher Secondary School for Boys, Shadman Colony, and Arfa Tahir (roll number 744580) of Divisional Public Higher Secondary School for Girls, Model Town, shared third position with 1,020 marks.

Larabe Farrukh, Saman Habib and Arfa Tahir also earned top three positions, respectively, in science group among girls.

Taimoor Jaffar Ali secured first position in science group among boys. Muhammad Faizyab Ali Chaudhry (roll number 775905) of Crescent Model Higher Secondary School for Boys, Shadman, secured second position with 1,019 marks and Muhammad Fareed Khalid (roll number 741138) of The Punjab School for Boys, Sector C-I, Block-2, Township, third position with 1,018 marks.

In humanities group among boys, Abdul Rehman (roll number 101243) and Usman Sadiq (roll number 101587) of Pakistan Model High School for Boys, Raiwind Road, clinched first and second positions with 946 and 938 marks, respectively.Muhammad Saif (roll number 101556), a private candidate from Kasur district, got third position with 931 marks.

In humanities group among girls, Bushra Shafiq (roll number 120409) of The Punjab School for Boys, Block-2, Township, clinched first position with 980 marks. Fatima Ashraf (roll number 132297) and Rabia Shehzad (roll number 131954) of Farooqi Girls High School, Karim Park, Ravi Road, secured second and third positions with 977 and 975 marks, respectively.The third position was also shared by Sumaira Zia (roll number 134170) of AV Girls High School, Ittefaq Colony, Millat Road, Sanda, with 975 marks.

Earlier, the BISE chairman explained the automation of the examination, marking and results compilation systems. He said some one million students appeared for matriculation examination, including over 208,000 in Lahore.

He said the formal results would be declared at a prize distribution ceremony for position holders at Alhamra Hall-2, The Mall, at 10am on Tuesday (today). Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman is scheduled to chair the ceremony.
