RAWALPINDI, July 31: The traffic police during an operation against one-wheeling arrested five youngsters in July while scores of others were fined particularly those who were found driving rashly.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah said this while talking to media men here at his office at Race Course Ground on Sunday.

He said that the operation against one-wheeling and rash driving was launched in the beginning of July and several motorcycles were impounded in different areas during the campaign. Five one-wheelers were arrested and cases were registered against them in Cantt police station, he added.

He said that the campaign was being monitored by the special squads of traffic officials deputed on the roads. He said that the traffic police officials were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law might be taken against them.

The traffic officers and circle heads were also directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one should be spared if found involved in this dangerous act, which is a cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders.

He said that one-wheelers were not only playing with their own lives but also they were the threat for the other road users.

He said the traffic wardens were directed to supervise the campaign in their areas and take effective measures in this regard. He said the campaign would continue and cases under section 99/A would be registered against one-wheelers and they would be sent behind the bars.

The SP Traffic said most traffic accidents could be averted if precautionary measures were taken with strict observance of traffic rules.

He said the citizens particularly the parents should come forward and play their role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving were the main causes of the fatal accidents.

He said that the traffic wardens were responsible for ensuring smooth flow of traffic and checking violation of law on the roads.

To control one-wheeling, the traffic police had deputed special officials with specific orders in different parts of the city, he added. — APP
