FAISALABAD, Nov 2: Around 2,000 employees of various departments, who were sent to the surplus pool after the introduction of local government system, have not been salaries for the last many months.

Sources told Dawn on Saturday that employees of defunct district councils, municipal corporations, housing and physical planning department, deputy commissioner’s offices and other departments were sent to the surplus pool in August, 2001, when new system was introduced in the country.

The Punjab government reportedly adjusted around 1,691 employees in different departments. They also have not been paid salaries for many months, sources added.

They said the employees have been suffering because of the tussle among finance and other departments where these employees have been posted.

The finance department of Faisalabad Development Authority refused to pay salary to a dozen employees who were sent to local labour court from surplus pool on the plea that payment to employees of other departments and agencies could not be made from the budget of FDA.

The offices of district coordination officer, district and tehsil Nazimeen and executive district officer (revenue) also received similar complaints from different departments.
