ABBOTTABAD, Nov 2: The provincial government has taken back Rs10 million uplift funds from the Galyat Development Authority as the money could not be used within the stipulated period.
The former NWFP chief minister, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, had allocated the funds during his tenure for the development of Galyat.
The officials entitled to use the funds, for the improvement of infrastructure and provision of facilities to the tourists, had just kept the money in banks and earned interest on it, sources said.
They also said that though various plans had been devised for the development of Galyat, and huge funds had also been released for the purpose, the officials concerned had not taken any interest, and, thus, the funds lapsed.
The development authority, after its merger with the district government, was made an independent body by the previous provincial government.
