PESHAWAR, Nov 2: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s candidate for prime minister, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has termed the Legal Framework Order as the main reason behind the prevailing political deadlock in the country.

Talking to newsmen at Darul Uloom Sarhad, Peshawar, on Saturday, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal secretary-general, however, expressed the hope that the issue of LFO would be resolved before the inaugural session of the National Assembly.

He said: “I hope the government will remove this obstacle before the inaugural session of the National Assembly.”

He said that the MMA did not accept the Legal Framework Order as a part of the 1973 Constitution.

Fazl said the PML-Q parliamentary party leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had initiated a process of dialogue with the government to convince the military regime to soften its stance on the LFO and to withdraw the ordinances. But the MMA had yet to receive a reply from Chaudhry Shujaat, he added.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman was confident that the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) would stand behind him in the lower house to elect him as the next prime minister.

“I am sure that the ARD’s component parties would support my nomination for the prime minister’s office,” he remarked.

The ARD component parties, he said, were holding a meeting in Islamabad and he was waiting for a positive response from the ARD leadership.

Replying to a question, he said that people had given full mandate to the MMA and the powers that be should respect the mandate and invite the alliance to form its government in the centre.

He lauded return of the US forces to their country after conducting joint military exercises with the Pakistan Army.
