ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari felicitated former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday on his unopposed ‘election’ as president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

“Nawaz Sharif’s unopposed election is a measure of trust reposed in him by his party,” the president said.

According to the president’s spokesman, Farhatullah Babar, Mr Zardari expressed the hope that the PML-N under the leadership of Mr Sharif would continue to play a positive role in strengthening democracy, supremacy of parliament and rule of law and in promoting national reconciliation in the country.
