HARIPUR, Nov 1: The convener of the Haripur Tehsil council had to postpone the session for an indefinite period when the members staged a walkout against what they called despotic attitude of the  Tehsil Nazim here on Friday.

Amin Khan advocate, the tehsil naib Nazim, presided over the session which was convened for the first time after the general elections.

As per the agenda of the Friday’s meeting the house had to endorse the decisions taken in the previous session, including the approval of the land, to be acquired by the Tehsil Nazim, for shifting of the mini-transport stands around the Adda Darband to a new location near Makhan Colony.

In the last session the house witnessed rumpus on the same issue when the Nazim had announced that he had selected a 31-kanal piece of land near Makhan Colony for the proposed shifting of the   stands.

A committee headed by Malik Hanif, naib-Nazim, Ladarmang UC, was  constituted for probing into the matter.

The committee, on Friday rejected the place selected by the Nazim.

The Tehsil Nazim, Iftikhar Ahmad Khan, dissolved the committee, which resulted in a walkout by a majority of the members of the house.

Later, while talking to newsmen the protesting members, including  Saboor Qureshi, Sheikh Abid, Raja Ehtesham and Malik Hanif, lashed out at the Tehsil Nazim for deciding the matters of public interest, without the consent of the house.

They said that the piece of land, selected by the Nazim, was costly  and was located in the thickly populated area, with a potential for expanding, which may cause traffic problems in the future.

They were of the view that the 51 kanals of the land selected by the house’s committee was not only available on lower price but it was also located at a suitable place.

Earlier, the Nazim expressed his resentment over the cancellation of a plan of setting up of kiosks in the city, by the committee and said that the decision had deprived the TMA of an income of RS4.5 million per annum.
