Doctors’ protest continues

GUJRANWALA, Nov 1: The Pakistan Medical Association and the PML-N women’s wing staged a joint protest rally here on Friday against the arrest of Dr Amir Aziz and Dr Ghairat Beheer.

Doctors of public hospitals wore black armbands and did not attend the patients in wards. They took out a protest procession led by PMA president Dr Ishtiaq Safdar and Punjab PML-N women’s wing secretary-general Ms Nayer Murtaza.

The procession started from the PMA House on Hospital Road and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk on the GT Road. The protesters, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans against the government and the FBI.

FAISALABAD: Hundreds of local doctors, teachers and students on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the local Allied Hospital against the formation of boards of governors and illegal detention of Dr Amir.

The doctors of Allied, DHQ and other hospitals, dispensaries and basic health units and professors and students of the Punjab Medical College observed a complete strike on the call of the Pakistan Medical Association and the Joint Action Committee of teachers, students and doctors.

SARGODHA: Doctors observed a complete strike here on Friday against issuance of show-cause notices to doctors and teachers and demanded release of Dr Amir.

Speaking on the occasion Sargodha PMA general secretary Dr Sikandar Warraich warned that the doctors would continue their strike till the notices were withdrawn.

He said doctors would not compromise on principles and launch struggle for their rights.

Other speakers warned that doctors would not allow the government to increase the fee in public hospitals from Rs2 to Rs10. They also opposed increase in pathological tests, X-rays and operation charges. They also opposed the appointment of doctors on contract.

It may be noted that private hospitals also joined the strike along with civil hospitals as a result of which patients suffered hardships in getting treatment.

They said doctors, teachers and students would jointly launch a move for their common cause.

SIALKOT: Doctors continued their strike here against the detention of Dr Amir Aziz.

They also took out a rally and chanted anti-government slogans.

Students and teachers belonging to a number of local colleges also boycotted classes after 11 am to protest the BOGs constitution.
