GUJRANWALA, Oct 31: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and students organizations on Thursday staged a rally against the formation of boards of governors and the denationalization of educational institutions.
PPLA president Prof Mahboob Ahmad, ATI district president Qaiser Shahzad and others, including students, also held a protest meeting at the Government Islamia College here on Thursday.
They said that they would not accept the denationalization of educational institutions or formation of boards of governors as such steps would close the doors of education for the poor students.
Later, they took out the rally which started from the college and terminated at the Gondlanwala Chowk on the GT Road after parading through various city roads.
Carrying banners and placards, the protesters also shouted slogans against the denationalization of educational institutions. They warned the government that their strike would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
Meanwhile, doctors of private and civil hospitals also condemned the government policy for constituting boards of governors in civil hospitals.
SIALKOT: On the appeal of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), doctors continued their strike throughout the Sialkot district.
The doctors in all government and private hospitals, clinics, BHUs and RHCs wore black armbands in protest against the detention of Dr Amir Aziz.
The protesting doctors also took out a rally and chanted slogans against the government.
They also held a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Imran Idrees Butt and strongly condemned the detention of Dr Amir Aziz and demanded his immediate release.
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee of teachers in the Narowal district also staged a protest procession to press the government for the acceptance of its demands.
JAC chairman Prof Muhammad Anwar Naz said the protest against the government policy regarding educational institutions would continue till its withdrawal.
SARGODHA: Teachers observed strikes and also boycotted their classes on Thursday across the district in protest against the appointment of boards of governors in educational institutions.
Representatives of teachers and the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) also held a protest meeting at the Government College for Women.
Speaking on the occasion, they criticized the government policy of deputing BoGs in educational institutions and said this would only deprive the poor population of education.
They threatened that teachers, doctors and students would come out on roads if the government did not withdraw its decision.
Those who spoke included, Dr Muhammad Ahmed Khan, Liaquat Ghafoor Piracha, Mrs Robina Zafar and PML secretary-general Dr Sikandar Hayat Warraich.
The Joint Action Committee of teachers assured the doctors that teachers would also take part in their protest strike on Friday (today).
