45pc AKU-EB students get A-1, A grades in SSC exam

KARACHI, July 7: The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) on Thursday announced results of the annual secondary school certificate exam.

Hooria Imran of Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan School with 93.55 per cent marks obtained the first position in the exam.Komal Zehra Zaidi of Al-Murtaza School (girls branch) with 93.45 per cent marks and Sarah Salahuddin of Shah Wilayat Public School with 92.82 per cent marks got second and third positions, respectively.

The results showed that 13.6 per cent of SSC Part I and II (combined) candidates achieved A-1 grade and 31.6 per cent students obtained A grade.

The detailed results are now available online for candidates at www.aku.edu/akueb.

According to AKU-EB Director Dr Thomas Christie, the exams are space-limited and require candidates to think critically to apply what they have learned all year into just a few lines. “This is not an easy task: it is a product of many months ofdedication towards learning how to explore resources beyond the textbook and search independently to arrive at specific outcomes.”

He explained that the skills acquired through these examinations would help the candidates in the real world.

This year, AKU-EB students were able to access its learning support website, which has tutorial videos covering English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology of the SSC national curriculum besides practice tests. “The website is an extension of our ongoing collaboration with Kawish Television Network to daily broadcast these subject lessons on television.

It is one way for us to encourage our candidates to become independent learners and take charge of their own learning,” said AKU-EB Associate Director Karima Kara.—APP
