Soomro may contest for Senate seat

SUKKUR, Oct 29: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said that he will consider contesting for a Senate seat if asked by President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

He said that there was no political deadlock in the country and hoped that the political leadership would evolve a consensus to form new government.

He was replying to newsmen’s questions in Sangi on Tuesday, where he arrived for inauguration of rehabilitation of Baberloi-Pano Aqil section of the N-5.

The governor held the Pakistan Muslim League(Q), the People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal responsible for delay in formation of new government.

Rejecting possibility of re-election, he said that President Gen Pervez Musharraf wanted the formation of next government soon.

Earlier, Mr soomro visited the house of slain journalist Shahid Soomro in Kandhkot and offered condolence to his family. He assured them that they would get justice and the killers would not go unpunished.

He ordered the police officials to recover the arms and the car, used in the crime, in 24 hours.

He handed over a cheque of Rs300,000 to the family of the slain journalist Shahid Soomro.

MNA-elect Aijaz Jakhrani, who was accompanying the governor, also offered financial help to the family of the deceased newsman, which they rejected.

They said that Jakhrani was supporting the people, who were involved in the murder, and he also went to Sukkur on Monday, when the accused were sent there to appear before the Anti-Terrorism Court.
