Hoarders raise prices of kitchen articles

FAISALABAD, Oct 29: The hoarders have enhanced the prices of ghee, sugar, gram-powder and other kitchen articles by 15 to 20 per cent by creating artificial shortage before the start of Ramazan.

It is learnt that vanaspati ghee is being sold at Rs58 to Rs60 per kilogram as against its fixed rate of Rs55. Sugar is being sold for Rs22 to R23 per kg while its price was Rs20 per kg.

There is an artificial shortage of gram-powder in the city as it will be in high demand during Ramazan.

Similarly, traders in residential and commercial areas have increased the rates of red chili powder, spices, pulses and other consumer goods without any justification. Shopkeepers are also not displaying price lists.

It may be noted that there is no system to check adulteration and increase in the prices of commodities as food inspectors of the defunct municipal corporation have refused to work under the control of EDO (health).

The health branch of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (city) has become inoperative for the last one month due to flaws in the devolution plan. Nazimeen are also playing the role of silent spectators at the cost of health of the citizens.
