LAHORE, June 29: Rain continued to lash several cities in Punjab and upper parts of the country on Wednesday and the Met office forecast the rain spell to continue for the next 36 hours.

The Flood Forecasting Division reported low flood in the Indus at Tarbela, in the Kabul at Naushera and the Ravi at Balloki, expecting the flow to remain at the same level during the next 24 hours.

Rain in Lahore was heavy around the airport than in the rest of the city. A strong wind accompanied the rain.

The Met office recorded 98mm of rain at the airport and 46mm at its Jail Road office. The maximum temperature was 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum 22 degrees Celsius with 96 per cent humidity in the morning and 64 per cent in the evening.

It reported that Sahiwal received 43mm of rain, Faisalabad 38mm, Bahawalnagar 27mm, Noorpurthal 26mm, Okara 25mm, Bhakkar and Sialkot 18mm (each), Jhang 12mm, Balakot 9mm, Mangla 7mm, Risalpur 6mm, Kotli, Sargodha, Garhidupatta and Kakul 4mm (each), TT Singh, Dera Ismail Khan, Muzaffarabad and Astore 3mm (each), Pattan, Chakwal 2mm, Rawlakot, Astore, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Chillas and DG Khan trace.

The Met office forecast more rain during the next 24 hours because of the persisting westerly wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas, and moist current from the Arabian Sea.

Isolated thunderstorm/rain may also occur over upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south Punjab and Northeast Balochistan.
