SIALKOT, Oct 26: Four men kidnapped the 13-year-old son of an exporter for ransom from the city on Saturday.
Eye witnesses said four unidentified men intercepted Ahmad Suleman on Islamia College Road, Rangpura. They made him sit in a car without a registration number and escaped.
Later, the kidnappers contacted Muhammad Naveed by phone and demanded Rs1 million as ransom for the release of his son.
Rangpura police registered a case, with no arrest.
Meanwhile, the inspector-general of Punjab Police, Malik Asif Hayat, has expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of the Sialkot and Daska police to check the crime rate.
Official sources said on Saturday that the IGP directed the Sialkot and Daska police to arrest the ‘real culprits’ involved in crimes of heinous nature, especially dacoity and robbery incidents.
He also directed Daska DSP Masood Javaid to submit within a week a detailed report about the progress in the major bus dacoity cases and murder case of Begowala police station SHO.
Meanwhile, Sialkot district police officer issued show-cause notices to all SHOs of Daska circle in this regard.
SAFETY COMMISSION: The Punjab government has notified the members of the Narowal district public safety commission.

PROTEST: The students and teachers of the Government Post-Graduate College for Women, Sialkot, continued their protest for the fifth day on Saturday.
They are protesting against the denationalization policy of the government and constitution of boards of governors for educational institutions in the Punjab.
There are more than 8,000 girl students are on the roll in this college.
The protesters were led by Prof Khalida Gilani, the Sialkot chapter women wing president of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA).
Later, they also held a rally on the campus and chanted anti-government slogans.
PMA: Doctors observed strike throughout the district on Saturday to protest over the illegal detention of orthopaedist Dr Amir Aziz, on the appeal of the Pakistan Medical Association.
They also held a rally to press the government to ensure immediate release of Dr Aziz.
LAWYERS: The Sialkot District Bar Association has demanded immediate release of Advocate Chaudhry Tahir Mahmood Hundai.
A meeting presided over by its president M. Azhar Chaudhry on Saturday said that Mr Hundai was implicated in a case by Sialkot police.
It threatened that a provincewide protest would be launched if the lawyer was not released immediately.
Earlier, lawyers boycotted courts.
