VEHARI, Oct 26: The father of landlord Jahangir Tareen, Faiz, produced the woman whose head and eyebrows were shaved off in Mailsi, Sarwar Mai, before the Multan bench of the Lahore High Court, on Friday.
The court directed the Vehari DPO to complete investigations within two days and submit report.
Later, Faiz Tareen handed over Sarwar Mai to her husband Abdul Shakoor, on Friday evening. Shakoor, Sarwar Mai and her brother Karam Husain were brought here in police custody.
On this occasion, Sarwar Mai told her story to newsmen. She alleged that she was kidnapped by local landlord Iqbal Shah. However, Alampur union council Nazim Iftikhar Khakwani recovered her from Iqbal Shah and handed over to Jahangir.
Jahangir held a puchayat where she was sentenced and her punishment was implemented by force.
She said after the incident, the landlord sent her to an unknown place to Bahawalpur and then to Khairpur Tamewali from where she was taken by Faiz Tareen to the Multan bench.
On the other hand, Jahangir denied Sarwar’s allegation and claimed that she was taken away by her husband from punchayat.
He told Dawn on Saturday that his political rivals, the Khichis, planned this drama to harm his repute.
Vehari DPO, in the meantime, transferred Mailsi Sadar police station SHO and appointed Burewala SHO in his place.
Meanwhile, all the accused, including Jahangir Tareen, had got pre-arrest bail from a Mailsi court till Oct 31. Only two accused, Allah Ditta and barber Allah Rakha, are in police custody.
All the accused who were on pre-arrest bail, reached investigating officer DSP Rao Akbar’s office on Saturday to join investigations.
It is learnt that the Tareens are applying their influence to reconcile with the victim’s family. It is likely that the matter will be resolved before Oct 31 when the pre-arrest bail of the accused would be taken up for confirmation.
