LAHORE: Wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider will appear before a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary committee on Friday to explain the position over his shocking decision to abandon the national team during an international contest in the UAE last year.

The 25-year-old Zulqarnain who made his Test debut against England last year, stunned everybody by leaving the national squad in Dubai without informing anyone, hours before the series-deciding fifth One-day International against South Africa last November. He claimed that he was threatened by match-fixers.

Sultan Rana will chair the committee meeting along with two other members — Col. Waseem and Khawaja Awais.

Sultan said Zulqarnain had already written a letter to the PCB, explaining his position which forced him to leave the team in Dubai.

Sultan further said Zulqarnain’s letter was missing some information, which he had divulged in his TV interview after the incident.
