SADIQABAD, Oct 25: The Sheikh Zayed Airport, Rahim Yar Khan, will be the fifth airport in the country having landing facilities for big planes after the completion of the expansion work by the end of next month.
Talking to APP, airport manager Ashfaq Hussain Sial said that at present three airports of the country at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad had landing facilities for big planes while Nawabshah had the required runway but lacked the necessary terminal facility.
“The Sheikh Zayed Airport will be among the most modern airports following the completion of the expansion project with the financial assistance of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruler of the UAE.”
Sial said besides the expansion of the runway which was being widened from 100 to 200 feet and its length increased from the present 9,000 feet to 10,000, the apron too had been doubled, to enable adequate simultaneous parking for two 747s, three Airbuses and four 737 planes.
“To ensure that inclement weather does not hamper flights, the airport is being equipped with most modern equipment,” said the official.—APP
