HARIPUR, Oct 25: Many development schemes approved during the last fiscal year by the Tehsil Municipal Administration are yet to be completed, it is learnt.
In 2001-02, the TMA in consultation with the Tehsil Council had approved schemes with a ceiling of Rs300,000 each for 37 Naib Nazims, besides earmarking Rs200,000 for each of the 12 members elected on the reserved seats.
Of these schemes involving about Rs160 million, 90 per cent projects are about road carpeting, water supply and repair of educational institutions.
Despite the fact that the contractors had been issued work orders, work on any of these schemes has not started, officials sources said. The TMA has failed to initiate any legal action against the faulty contractors.
Under rules, when a contractor fails to initiate work within four weeks his security should be forfeited to be followed by re-tendering for the concerned project.
The TMA had passed a Rs69.993 million surplus budget for 2002-03. It had projected Rs29.51 million worth of development expenditures: Rs11 million for ongoing schemes and Rs18.514 million for new projects.
