PESHAWAR, June 9: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa coalition partners discussed strategy for the annual budget to be unveiled in the provincial assembly on Saturday.

MPAs of the Awami National Party, Pakistan People’s Party and independent group met at the chief minister secretariat and discussed ways and means for the budget session. Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, parliamentary leaders of ANP Bashir Ahmad Bilour and Abdul Akbar Khan and members of the independent group attended the meeting.

Finance Minister Hamayun Khan will present the budget for the year 2011-12 in the House. Sources said that budget session was likely to be wound up within a week because of the security situation.

During the parliamentary parties meeting, members were asked to avoid presenting cut motions in order to pass the budget as early as possible. Members were informed that special development package would be announced in the budget for 10 districts including Hangu and Kohat.

On Wednesday, Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmati also presided over meeting of the parliamentary party leaders in his chamber. Parliamentary leaders of treasury and opposition benches were briefed about the security plan chalked out for the budget session.

An official said that the prevailing security situation was a major concern for the government.

“That is why the government is in a hurry to pass the budget,” he said.

He said that budget session would start at 5pm on Saturday and the main arteries around the assembly building would remain closed for traffic during the proceedings.
