3 Japanese newsmen killed

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24: Four persons, including three Japanese TV journalists, died on Thursday afternoon as their vehicle plunged into River Indus after meeting an accident somewhere between Gilgit and Chalas.

The team, belonging to NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), was returning to Islamabad after preparing a documentary on Hunza valley.

The dead are: Kiyoshi Honda, Shojun Hata, Takeuchi Taro and a local driver of the vehicle.

It is learnt that the NHK team was supposed to take the PIA flight from Gilgit to Islamabad but due to cancellation of the flight, the Japanese journalists decided to travel by road in the jeep they had hired to go to Hunza and other areas.

Meanwhile, the Chalas police recovered the bodies and sent them to a Gilgit hospital.
