ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani increased on Saturday the perks and privileges of the attorney-general of Pakistan by 203 per cent and those of deputy attorney-general by 266 per cent.

The decision came a day after the announcement of the federal budget 2011-12 under which the government approved a 15 per cent increase in the salaries of government employees.

Under the revised terms and conditions, the attorney-general will get Rs606,811 a month instead of the existing Rs200,000. The new package equals the one being given to a judge of the Supreme Court, says an official announcement.

The package includes a salary of Rs368,186, superior judicial allowance of Rs170,625, and a house rent of Rs68,000 in case official residence has not been provided to the attorney-general.

The additional attorney-general, who has been getting a total of Rs150,000 a month, will now get Rs548,845, a package which is equal to what is being offered to a judge of the high court.

The salary of the additional attorney-general will be Rs347,345, superior judicial allowance Rs136,500 and house rent Rs65,000, in case official residence is not provided.

The salaries of deputy attorney-general and standing counsel have also been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000 and from Rs75,000 to Rs100,000, respectively.

The expenditure of revised perks and privileges of law officers will be met from the budget of the minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs, the announcement said.
