LAHORE, May 25: ‘Correspondence’ an exhibition of artworks, based on the exchange of ideas among the students of three different geographical locations opened on Wednesday at Zahoorul Akhlaq Gallery, National College of Arts (NCA).
The art show is a collaboration between NCA students, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and University of Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria.
“It’s a triangle dialogue on art and an interaction of cultures in cultural, social, economic and political contexts,” said NCA Gallery Director Qudsia Raheem.
Up to 39 works, which include photographs, drawings, collages, installations and mix media works, by 39 NCA students have been on display.
“The exhibition has been an exchange from three different locations of the world,” said NCA teacher Muhammad Ali Talpur.
“The works, therefore, are reflective of the fact that how such context may shape individual responses. Additionally, the mechanics of communication and perception are highlighted with this interaction.”
“The gallery displays the fruit of this collaboration between students of third year Fine Arts of divided in three stages; 13 NCA students sent their works to a batch of 13 from the Harvard University in the first stage,” said Ms Raheem.
“The similar exchange occurred involving the other two institutions, with the students from Harvard University sending their work to Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg, and the latter sending their work to NCA,” she said. “In the second stage, all the students involved responded to the work they received with a work of their own and sent both packages forward to the next institution in line. Similarly, in the third stage a third response was created and all three works were sent back to the parent institute, thereby completing the full circle,” she added. At NCA Gallery works by the students of NCA are on display.
