JOHANNESBURG, Oct 22: South Africa have brought back captain Shaun Pollock for the second and final Test against Bangladesh starting in Potchefstroom Friday.

All-rounder Pollock has recovered from the knee injury that sidelined him from the first Test in East London, which South Africa won by an innings and 107 runs Monday.

He is likely to replace either fast bowler Mornantau Hayward or seamer David Terbrugge, who were both retained in the 12-man squad named Tuesday.

Squad: Shaun Pollock (captain), Herschelle Gibbs, Graeme Smith, Gary Kirsten, Jacques Kallis, Ashwell Prince, Martin van Jaarsveld, Mark Boucher, Claude Henderson, David Terbrugge, Makhaya Ntini, Mornantau Hayward.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka see their tour to South Africa as vital to their 2003 World Cup chances, skipper Sanath Jayasuriya said Tuesday.

“It’s really great to be able to play five one-day internationals in South Africa with the World Cup coming up,” he told reporters on arrival.

The trip also features two Tests.—Reuters
