VEHARI, Oct 22: The Mailsi police claim to have arrested one of those nominated in the FIR of Sarwar Mai’s humiliation at Mauza Shaman Mailsi.
SHO Sadar Qazi Basit told Dawn that one of the five accused, Riaz Ahmed, had been arrested. He was a member of the landlords’ panchayat which had given the disgraceful verdict and contrary to those arrested earlier admitted that the incident did happen, the SHO added.
The SHO claimed that Ms Sarwar had fled with her husband Abdul Shakoor. Local landlord Jahangir Tareen had no hand in her disappearance, he maintained.
He further claimed that the landlord would court arrest during the next 24 hour. The other accused, Mohammad Iqbal, Allah Ditta, Jahangir and Munshi Yasin are also still at large.
The SHO said Mr Riaz had not disclosed the hideout of his accomplices.
A source said Mr Tareen would appear in the police station after a patch-up with the victim’s family.
