ISLAMABAD, May 8: An ‘All-Pakistan Sufi’ conference announced here on Sunday that a ‘train march’ would be launched on Sept 11 from Karachi to Islamabad to mobilise public opinion against conspiracies to undermine national integrity and force the government to review its foreign policy.
Leader of the Pakistan Sunni Council Sahibzada Fazal Karim, MNA, said the recent operation in Abbottabad in which Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was said to have been killed was a “drama staged by the United States to embarrass Pakistani military and civilian leadership”.
“Osama and Obama are part of the same drama staged with the sole objective of causing more deaths and destruction,” he alleged.
Mr Karim urged the government to stop toeing the line of the West and review the country’s foreign policy.
Information Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party Qamar Zaman Kaira said the world powers were responsible for the spread of terrorism because they preferred the use of military might over dialogue.
Such powers nourished, promoted and then abandoned monsters like Osama bin Laden who created a state of chaos and massacred innocent people, he said.
Allama Pir Riaz Hussain Shah said the government should adopt its own strategy to deal with terrorism instead of looking towards the western powers for guidelines.
The conference attended by more than 1,000 Ulema from across the country condemned the government for failing to curb attacks on shrines and places of worship belonging to Sunni sect.
Pir Afzal Qadri held the auqaf department and sajjada nashins of various shrines responsible for the suicide attacks because, according to him, they provided excuse to the attackers by allowing immoral activities like use of drugs and dancing there.
The conference adopted a resolution condemning the burning of Holy Quran by a priest in Florida and asked the government to take up the matter with the US administration.
Another resolution called upon the government to stop banned extremist organisations from working under new names.
The conference also condemned target killings in Karachi and demanded of the government to take immediate steps to improve the law and order situation in the city.
