PESHAWAR, Oct 19: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) president Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani has said that the alliance is strong enough to form governments in the centre and two provinces - NWFP and Balochistan.

Talking to newsmen at the Al-Zarghon Masjid on Friday he said that the MMA would not take any decision in haste.

“We believe in consensus,” the MMA chief said, adding that the country could not afford controversies and the alliance would try to take along all the national political forces.

He dispelled the impression that the Oct 10 elections had led to a hung parliament, saying that only three groups - PML (Q), PPP and MMA - had emerged as major political forces in the country.

He asked the political observers not to compare the new parliament with the Indian parliament where 12 parties had set up a coalition government.

Replying to a question Mr Noorani said that the alliance would continue to struggle for the enforcement of Shariat and establish the supremacy of parliament.

Moreover, he said that the MMA would keep opposing the presence of foreign troops in the country and try formulating an independent foreign policy according to the wishes of the people.
