LAHORE: The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday informed the Lahore High Court that it had lodged regular protests with the US Government on drone attacks.

It was stated in a reply submitted before Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar Hussain who was hearing a civil miscellaneous application against drone attacks filed by Barrister Iqbal Jafree.

Deputy Chief of protocol (A&F) Zahid Raza, in a reply on behalf of the foreign ministry, pleaded the court to dispose of the application as it was filed in a matter which the LHC had already disposed of on merit.

He contended that unless said order on main petition was not set aside, no civil miscellaneous application could be entertained.

Deputy Attorney General Nasim Kashmiri submitted the reply before the court.

Home Department Punjab also submitted its reply through an assistant advocate general and submitted that the matter was not related to Punjab government.

However, the petitioner's counsel Barrister Iqbal Jafree requested the court to grant some time to pursue the replies.

The court accepting the request adjourned the matter till May 12. The civil miscellaneous application was filed by Barrister Iqbal Jafree seeking directions for the federal government to stop drone attacks in the country.

Barrister submitted that so far thousands of people, including women and children, had lost their lives due to the US drone attacks in Pakistan.

“The country's former President Pervez Musharraf is responsible for the US drone attacks in Pakistan, as his unwise foreign policy had turned Pakistan into a weak state”, he said.

He requested that directions be issued to the federal government to stop drone attacks.
