Safeer moves ahead

PESHAWAR, Oct 17: British Open junior champion Safeer Khan along with seven others moved to the second round of the CAS International Open squash championship Thursday.

Safeer was leading two sets to nil against Aijaz Azmat but Aijaz retired after developing severe pain in his knee.

Muhammad Ilyas of NWFP beat Farhan Moeen of Punjab 15-7, 15-3 15-6.

Naseem Tehkali upset Saud Al-Sulaiti of Qatar 15-7, 15-9, 15-6 while Majid Khan beat Amjad Khan 15-8, 15-5 and 15-9.

Farrukh Zaman was fully stretched before he outplayed Imran Mohib 13-15, 15-9, 15-3, 13-15, 15-9 in a thrilling match.

In the first game Farrukh took the lead 5-1, but Imran bounced back to level 5-5 and went ahead 5-9. Both were tied 9-9 and then were 13-all. Imran finally won 13-15.

Farrukh, after losing the first game, won the second 15-9 and third set by 15-3 but lost the fourth set by 13-15.

Farrukh kept control over and won the decisive game 15-9 to clinch the a 62-minute encounter.

In other matches Arshad Iqbal of NWFP beat Wakeel Khan 9-15, 15-6, 15-13 15-8, Zubair Ali of Punjab defeated Khayal Mohammad of Punjab 15-12, 15-13, 12-15, 15-11.

Saeed Hassan edged past Shamus-ul-Islam of Balochistan 15-11, 10-15, 11-15, 15-13, 15-13.—APP
