TORKHAM, Nov 13: Despite their tall claims of defending the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban have started surrendering each and every post along the Pak-Afghan border to unknown future rulers.

Taliban intelligence officer Maulvi Noor Mohammad Hanfi, who had been all powerful till the fall of Kabul on Tuesday morning, has termed the victory of their opponents “the will of Almighty Allah.”

Hanfi, while talking to Dawn on Tuesday, said, “So far, God has bestowed authority on us to lead the nation, but now some others will perform the same duty by the will of Almighty Allah.”

According the reports that he said he had received, situation was still normal in Jalalabad, the capital of the eastern Nangarhar province.

He said he was in touch with Governor Maulvi Abdul Kabir, and added that despite the fall of Kabul to the opposition forces, the situation on the Pak-Afghan border was quite normal.

An official of Pakistan border security forces told this correspondent that following the reports of the invasion of Kabul by Northern Alliance forces, Taliban border security guards had voluntarily disarmed themselves and vacated their checkposts. He said that on the arrival of the opposition forces in the Afghanistan capital, the Taliban had left without leaving a trace of authority.

There was an uneasy calm at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at the Torkham checkpost that remained open for vehicular traffic, coming from Afghanistan. However, authorities stopped vehicles on this side of the border, carrying relief goods.

A truck driver said they had been directed to wait till further orders. World Food Programme trucks, loaded with wheat, were seen proceeding to the border point.

More than two dozens heavy vehicles, loaded with relief goods, were parked on this side of the border.

A black-Turbo land-cruiser, carrying successor of Pir Sibghatullah Mojadaddi, sped inside Afghanistan from the Torkham Gate. However, he refused to give any comments on the prevailing situation in Afghanistan.
