LAHORE, Oct 16: A room has been dedicated to the memory of Faiz Ahmed Faiz at his old residence which now forms the provincial Directorate of Social Welfare and Women Development.
It was a nostalgic homecoming for the two daughters of late Mr Faiz, artiste Salima Hashmi and PTV Lahore general manager Moneeza Hashmi, who were chief guests along with their spouses and children at a ceremony held to unveil a plaque in the front corridor of the building.
The acclaimed poet lived in the building from 1947 to 1962. The Punjab government won it after years of litigation.
Speaking on the occasion, the two sisters recollected their childhood memories and hoped that the building would be retained in its original form and kept in a good condition.
Ms Salima regretted that many a historic buildings in Lahore had been allowed to perish over the years.
The Hashmis volunteered to decorate the room dedicated to Mr Faiz on the first floor of the building, next to the US Consulate.—APP
