LAHORE, Oct 16: The Punjab government has appointed additional chief secretary Mian Muhammad Jamil as inquiry officer to scrutinize the conduct of Dr Yasmin Rashid, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, Fatima Jinnah Medical College.

He will hold inquiry in accordance with the provisions of the Punjab Removal from Service (special powers) Ordinance, 2000. He has been asked to submit his report within the period stipulated in the ordinance.

The Punjab government had suspended Prof Yasmin Rashid on Oct 4 on the charges of misconduct and violation of Rule 25-B of the West Pakistan Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1966. The government is already conducting an inquiry through the Planning and Development Board chairman Zahoorul Haq Sheikh against her. She was accused of organizing strike in hospitals and staging protest demonstration in front of the Governor’s House in April.

When contacted, Prof Rashid said such inquiries had been instituted on mala fide grounds and made no difference.

She said as PMA president she would continue to perform her constitutional duties to protest for the rights of doctors.
