Jamaat condemns ‘illegal arrests, killings in Balochistan’

QUETTA, March 30: Jamaat-i-Islami’s Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has condemned extra-judicial killings of Baloch political workers and their illegal arrests and said that Balochistan issue should be settled politically to stop violence in the province.Addressing members of the Balochistan Bar Association here on Wednesday, he held the government responsible for the grave situation in Balochistan, adding that because of the authorities’ inaction the life and property of the people was not safe.

BBA’s former president, Baz Muhammad Kakar, presided over the meeting. The Jamaat leader said the president and prime minister were helpless before powerful forces working behind the scenes and because of this the government had failed to resolve the Balochistan issue.

He said extra-judicial killings, target killings and abduction for ransom have made lives of the people miserable, but the corrupt the government was busy in looting resources.

The JI leader said that no government agency had the right to keep any citizen in custody without fulfilling legal requirements.

He said the government and political leadership should play their role to resolve the Balochistan issue and the Baloch leadership should be approached to remove their complaints.

Mr Baloch claimed that the government was not serious in implementing the package announced for Balochistan.
