PPP sweeps polls in upper Sindh

SUKKUR, Oct 13: The People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) has swept polls in upper Sindh.

Other political parties, including the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the National Alliance, did not offer any competition.

The Muttahida failed to retain even its traditional seat from Sukkur-I in Sukkur city and the PPP’s Nasrullah Baloch defeated the Muttahida’s Mehmood Khan Yousfi.

However, the PPP lost all National Assembly seat and only one provincial assembly seat in its stronghold, Shikarpur.

The only provincial assembly seat won by the PPP by one of its detained leader, Agha Tariq Khan, who defeated the Sindh Democratic Alliance leader, Imtiaz Shaikh.

The PPP showed a good performance in Jacobabad and Khairpur, defeating senior leaders of the PML-Q and the National Alliance, including Illahi Bakhsh Soomro.

According to the official results, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah won from NA-198 by securing 34,461 votes against the MMA’s Maulana Asad Thanvi, who obtained 17,212 votes.

In NA-199, Mujeeb Pirzada secured the National Assembly seat after securing 51,693 votes against the SDA’s Taj Muhammad Shaikh, who got 46,281 votes.

Sardar Khalid Lund of the PPP secured his seat from NA-200 in Ghotki by securing 67,890 votes. His closest rival, Mian Farooq, obtained 33,096 votes.

An independent candidate, Ali Mohammad Maher, won the National Assembly seat from NA-201 in Ghotki by securing 57,000 votes. His opponent, Ghulam Rasool Kalhoro, got 41,000 votes.

In Shikarpur, Ibrahim Jatoi of the SDA won NA-202 seat with 53,228 votes defeating Aftab Shaban Mirani, who secured 40,116 votes.

The National Assembly seat from NA-208 in Jacobabad was won by Mir Aijaz Jakhrani of the PPP with 40,042 votes against his rival Illahi Bakhsh Soomro of the PML-Q, who got 25,427 votes.

Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani won the NA-209 seat from Jacobabad with 52,712 votes against his PML-Q rival, Abdul Rahim Khoso, who got 39,015 votes.

Saleem Jan Mazari won the NA-210 seat from Jacobabad after taking 83,134 votes against the PPP’s Imran Bijarani, who got 36,992 votes.

Dr Ghaffar jatoi secured the Naushahro Feroze seat of NA-211 with 83,150 votes against the PPP’s Zulfiqar Behan, who secured 43,180 votes.

In NA-212 (Naushahro Feroze), Syed Zafer Ali Shah of the PPP was declared successful after he secured 75,861 votes. His closest opponent, Khalid Akhter Jatoi of the National Alliance, secured 59,811 votes.

Both of the National Assembly seats from Nawabshah were captured by the PPP candidates — Azra Fazal and Ghulam Mustafa Shah, who obtained 74,451 and 58,933 votes, respectively — defeating the PML-Q’s Zahid Hussain Shah and the National Alliance’s Mumtaz Rahoo, who obtained 43,180 and 59,811 votes, respectively.

The PPP bagged two out of the three National assembly seat from Khairpur.

The NA-215 seat was secured by the PPP’s Manzoor Wasan, with 62,384 votes. His opponent, Sher Mohammad Phulpoto, who was supported by the PML-F, got 36,430 votes.

Pir Syed Sadruddin Shah Rahidi of the PML-F secured the seat from NA-216 by getting 63,519 votes against the PPP’s Syed Javed Ali Shah Jilani, who got 58,735 votes.

Syed Fazal Shah Jilani won the seat from NA-217 by getting 54,351 votes against the PML-F’s Syed Mehram Ali Shah, who got 27,253 votes.
