RAHIM YAR KHAN, Oct 13: NA-92 runner-up Haji Saifulla Khan of PPP has accused District Nazim Ahmad Mahmood of using all resources at his disposal to get PML-Q nominees elected from the district.

Addressing a press conference with other PPP candidates, former religious affairs minister said party polling agents were harassed at the behest of the nazim and were also kidnapped on the polling day.

“Government servants were deputed in different polling stations by the nazim,” he said, adding the party was in possession of proofs.

The Nazim, it may be added, is known as a kingmaker of the local politics. He has a history of helping pro-establishment candidates succeed in his district. Victories of Humayoon Akhtar Khan in the 1997 polls, Jehangir Tareen in NA-195 and Chaudhry Pervez Elahi in PP-292 from Rahim Yar Khan go to his credit.

The PPP leaders also produced before the newsmen party workers who said they were tortured and intimidated by police on the polling day. — Correspondent
