FIA reopens forex scam case

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday ordered to reopen a money laundering case and submit a new challan in the court against two renowned currency exchange dealers, DawnNews reported.

According to sources, the agency had also started investigations against the assistant director of the FIA, Tariq Pervez, who had allegedly excluded the names of Munaf Khanani and Hanif Kalia from the case registered in Abottabad.

An FIA team had raided the franchise of the Khanani and Kalia group’s currency exchange in August 2008. The franchise was doing business despite the cancelation of its license.

Sources said that the group had allegedly opened 47 fake bank accounts and were doing business by using these accounts.
