LAHORE, Oct 12: The Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith says the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s mandate is bogus as it has been “given” seats to create political instability in the country through a hung parliament.

The Jamiat is one of the six members of the MMA, a religious parties’ alliance that has won over 50 National Assembly seats.

The party is a long time ally of the PML-N and had appealed to the masses in general and the followers of Ahle Hadith school of thought in particular to vote for the MMA only in those constituencies where it had made electoral adjustments with the League.

According to Jamiat spokesman Sahibzada Amjad Ajmal, party chief Prof Sajid Mir said hung parliament was a desire of Gen Pervez Musharraf to indemnify the actions he had taken during his three-year rule and the (intelligence) agencies had fulfilled his desire by giving a “bogus” mandate to the MMA besides other parties.

However, Prof Mir warned that hung parliament would be a threat to the country’s interests.

He said his party had no link with the MMA and it was for this reason that its nominees were also defeated by abruptly changing polling schemes and providing flawed voters’ lists.

The Election Commission did not take notice of firing and ballots snatching incidents in the rural areas, he regretted.
