LAHORE, March 17: The Lahore High Court has categorically denied that the chief justice had any role in the compromise reached between CIA contractor Raymond Davis and the heirs of two deceased youths, as alleged by a section of press.

A handout issued here on Thursday said, the court noted with great regret the 'unsubstantial' and 'conjectural' news item appearing in a section of the press on March 17, maligning the LHC Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry by alleging that he had knowledge of the compromise.

The handout categorically denied that any information in this regard was made available to the chief justice or he acted on the advice of Punjab chief minister or any other government functionary while exercising his judicial function.

It said the court expected that the media would act with responsibility and refrain from publishing “incorrect and unverified” matter, particularly with reference to the judiciary.
