Dozen PML-J supporters booked

GUJRANWALA, Oct 11: Naushera Virkan police late Thursday night registered a case against a dozen PML-J supporters on the charges of snatching ballot papers and boxes from polling officers and for casting bogus votes.

The polling was in progress in Khan Musalman and Sapra villages when a dozen people entered the polling stations without the permission of polling officers. They snatched ballot papers from the polling officers and also took away the ballot boxes. They also stamped on ballot papers in favour of PML-J chief Chaudhry Hamid Nasir Chattha. They cast 97 bogus votes without the signature of polling officers concerned. Later, police retrieved the ballot boxes from their possession.

In the meanwhile, the polling remained suspended for two hours. Afterwards, the polling staff separated the bogus votes and got registered an FIR against the accused. Police were conducting raids on their residences to arrest them, but no arrest could be made till the filing of this report. — Correspondent
