ISLAMABAD, March 11: PPP Senators Gul Mohammad Lot and Ammar Ahmad Khan are among the richest members of the Upper House.According to statements of assets and liabilities submitted to the Election Commission, Mr Lot owns property of Rs1.351 billion in Pakistan and abroad and has investments of Rs1.420 billion.

He has nine properties abroad, including a flat in London, another in Saudi Arabia and a villa in UAE.

The declared net value of the assets of Ammar Ahmad Khan is Rs1.152 billion. He has shown an investment of Rs1.107 billion in his business. He owns four houses in Gulberg Lahore.Interestingly, his father is on top of the list of poorest Senators with net liabilities of Rs197.6 million.

Azam Khan Swati, who had been removed after a controversy sparked in the aftermath of Haj scam, owns six properties of the value of over Rs520 million in the United States and has equity of 16 million darhams in different properties in UAE.

He has declared the value of nine plots in Bahria town, now with structure, as Rs150 million. He owns 10 plots in Islamabad, two houses in Abbottabad and has inherited property with forestry infrastructure and houses.Federal minister Israrullah Zehri is also among the richest members of the Senate owning 50,000 acres of agriculture land of billions of rupees in different parts of Balochistan and in Sindh—25,000 acres in Kalat, 15,000 acres in Jhal Magsi, 5,000 acres in Khuzdar and 3,000 acres in Thatta.

Mr Zehri owns one bungalow each in Karachi and another in Quetta. He also owns 40 acres of land in Gwadar.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik owns property in the United Kingdom with a declared value of 1.3 million pound (Rs176 million) while he has secured mortgage of 1.1 million pounds on the property.

Leader of the House in the Senate, Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, has business capital of Rs195,000 in Pakistan. He owns a 1,990 model Caprice car and has declared its value as half a million. He and his family own significant properties in and around Islamabad.

A commercial plot he owns in I&T center G-9/4 sector of Islamabad he purchased for Rs370,000 and which is now worth Rs1,500 million. The value of another plot he purchased for Rs1.8 million has now appreciated to Rs15 million.

He owns 236 kanals of land in Haripur district inherited from parents.

The value of the land is Rs23.6 million. He purchased 231 kanal of land in Jandala village for Rs2.3 million which according to him is now wroth Rs23.1 million while another 20 kanals of land in Tarlai village he purchased for Rs15 million is still worth the same amount.

Leader of Opposition in the Senate, Wasim Sajjad, owns at least 10 plots, houses and farm houses in the country besides shares and accounts in national and international banks. He has declared the net worth of his assets at Rs131.6 million.

According to him, the cost at the time of purchase of all these assets was Rs66.3 million. He clarified that the market value he had declared was approximate and exact value could only be determined if the property was sold.

Parliamentary Leader of PML-N in Senate Ishaq Dar owns properties and accounts in and outside the country. He owns a House in Gulberg Lahore which according to him is now worth Rs45 million.

The senator has a villa in UAE that he purchased for 10.18 million dirhams. Mr Dar owns three luxury vehicles.

PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has declared that his 50 per cent share in two residential houses in posh localities of Islamabad and Lahore was only worth Rs5.2 and 3.4 million, respectively. He did not give the current value of the property. He owns 78 acres of agriculture land whose value, according to him, is Rs376,667 while the value of another 12.5 acre of land is Rs4.5 million.

The value of both the properties were also determined at the value of cost at the time of purchase. He has stock shares worth Rs10.04 million and Rs51.78 million cash in bank accounts. He is among the lawmakers who do not own a car.
