HARIPUR, Oct 10: Like other parts of the division polling for one NA and four PA seats was held in almost a peaceful atmosphere here.
Minor scuffles between the supporters of certain candidates leading to brief suspension in polling was however reported.
During visit to different polling stations of the district it was noted that polling, which started at the fixed time, remained unhindered though at certain points supporters of some of the candidates tried to stop it.
In Changi Bandi, a strong hold of Tareen family, some of the supporters of Yusuf Ayub tried to get personal with a presiding officer when he allowed a female voter to cast her vote who had come straight from Islamabad. Total votes polled at this female polling station was only 83 out of the total 533 registered votes.
It was for the first time in the history of village Chohar Sharif here that female were allowed to cast their votes and the turnout was recorded above 40pc at this station.
At the polling station of Kholian polling was suspended for some 30 minutes when a supporter of Yusuf Ayub pointed out that an assistant presiding officer facilitated vote in favour of Qazi Asad, a PMLQ nominee by an elderly person. However, the administration reached the side and restored the polling process with the consent of the rival parties. Same situation was reported in village Talokar but the administration managed to avoid any untoward incident.
Altercation between the supporters of candidates in PF 49, PF 51 and PF 52 was also reported but no report of injury or loss of life was reported from anywhere.
Visit to polling stations showed a low turnout, particularly at the female polling booths. At the start and midday the turnout of male voters was recorded at 6.94 to 14.77 pc in rural areas while at urban polling stations it was 21pc to 33pc but it shot up to 51pc at the close.
