Woman commits suicide
ATTOCK, March 8: A mentally disturbed woman committed suicide in Sujanda village here on Tuesday.
Police said 22-year old Ajmir Jan, wife of Dil Badshah, shot herself with the gun of her husband. Police shifted to body to the hospital. Later, the body was handed over to the relatives for burial after fulfilling legal formalities. — Correspondent
Five gangs busted
TAXILA, March 8: Five gangs of dacoits involved in different crimes in the city were busted by the police.
SSP Pervaiz Bandial said this while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.
He said in view of the growing robbery incidents in the area, special police teams headed by Inspector Sajid Gonadal were formed.
He said the teasm launched a swoop against the outlaws and busted the five gangs involved in robberies and street crimes.—Correspondent
Memorial reference
TAXILA, March 8: Pakistan Peoples Party’s minority wing here on Tuesday held a reference to commemorate the services of slain leaders, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer and federal Minister for Minorities’ Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti.
James Masih, president of the minority wing, paying tributes to the services of Mr Bhatti for promoting interfaith harmony, said his services for the noble cause would be remembered. A large number of local leaders and workers participated in the memorial reference.—Correspondent
Arrest of Bhatti’s killers sought
TAXILA, March 8: The Christian community has demanded of the government to immediately arrest the killers of Shahbaz Bhatti and urged that the minorities should be provided security in the country.
The Christian community presented the demands during a protest demonstration held here to condemn the killing of the miniorities minister.
The protest rally led by Sakhwat Raza, president Voice of Community, started from the Presbyterian Church. After marching on the Mall Road, it concluded peacefully at the Catholic Church.— Correspondent
Pakistan-China trade
ISLAMABAD, March 8: Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood said that the Chinese support in all the fields was vital for Pakistan and called upon the government to remove the bottlenecks in the way to smooth trade between the brotherly countries.
He said this while addressing a meeting held here between Chinese Overseas Association Gilgit-Baltistan and the Chinese traders from the Xinjiang province on Tuesday. The meeting was arranged by the Chinese Embassy.
Senator Talha Mehmood led the Senators’ delegation comprising leader of the opposition in the Senate Wasim Sajjad, Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, Senator Naeem Hussain Chattha and Secretary Senate Raja Muhammad Amin. —Staff Reporter
