MIRPURKHAS, Oct 10: The polling process remained peaceful in Mirpurkhas except for minor disturbances at a polling station in the Maher Ali Buta village and at another in the Phuladiyoon village on Thursday.

At a polling station in the Rabia Basri Government Girls High School, polling was suspended for half an hour when a dispute between .

At a polling station in the Khursheed Begum Girls High School, MQM and PPP women workers started fighting as a result of which some women were injured.

The polling resumed when a heavy police contingent arrived there and brought the situation under control.

Another clash took place at the Qaimkhani Hostel between MQM and PPP workers. However, police soon controlled the situation. Lack of security arrangements was witnessed at some polling stations.

Women presiding officers told a team of journalists that the police failed to drive away several unconcerned persons from the premises of the polling stations.

In the morning, the turnout was between 25 and 30 per cent.

However, during the last hours of the polling, the workers persuaded voters in going to the polling stations to cast their votes as a result of which the turnout in rural areas was between 25 and 30 per cent, while in urban areas it was between 30 and 40 per cent.

This correspondent visited various polling stations in both rural and urban areas including the villages of Bagh Din, Mohammad Bukhsh Lund, Mohammad Ali Shar, Fareed Khan Lashari, Qureshi Jamat Khana, and Jaman Shah.

This correspondent also visited the polling stations in the Shah Waliullah High School, the Taluka Primary High School, and the Khursheed Begum Government Girls High School.

The presiding officer of polling station 38, Naseem Akhtar, complained that she had not been provided with a list of candidates so she had been unable to complete the necessary documents.

In rural areas, a rush was witnessed at the polling tents of PPP candidates, while in the city rush was seen at the polling tents of the MQM.

At the Mehar Ali Boota village, Kot Ghulam Mohammad Taluka, PPP and PML(N) workers clashed as a result of which two people were injured.
