Most of the public transport vehicles have been impounded by the government for the election duty, while the remaining have been hired by the candidates for the transportation of voters to polling stations.
On Wednesday, due to the transport shortage, the worst-hit were the commuters who wanted to reach Dera Ghazi Khan, Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur, Jampur and Tuansa Sharif.
To take benefit of the situation, truckers launched a service with exorbitant fares. For instance, the normal fare for Kot Addu is Rs40 per passenger on a wagon, but the truckers were charging Rs150 on Wednesday.
